When I finished this book, I knew it would stick with me for a long time. The atrocities so many people have lived through! It is gut-wrenching and poignant. We have no idea what the Sudanese people went through but this book gives a small peek into the life of one girl who made it her mission to leave Sudan after the deadly attacks in her city. Her mantra is “I want life.” And that is probably what gets her through the MANY tough days and nights of her life until her final escape to America. But her story doesn’t end there, Achut Deng then goes on to share even more challenges that awaited her in the U.S. As a child and teen, she went through so much. Her story is powerful and filled with hope. It is an inspiring read.
