An Octopus may be Smarter than a Fifth Grader

An octopus is highly intelligent? I am not sure I agreed with that statement until I read Shelby Van Pelt’s Remarkably Bright Creatures. This book was not only a great read, but it made me curious about the octopus and began my search into the underwater world. If you have read this book and are looking for more octopus info to devour – this Netflix documentary is full of interesting octopus facts and even though it came out before the book was written, there are so many great tie-ins.

If you have read the book, leave a comment about how you felt about the book. The story reminds me of A Man Called Ove in so many ways – it’s clever, witty, and charming while still giving you a story you want to keep reading to see how it all ends. However, unlike A Man Called Ove, in Remarkably Bright Creatures, the grumpy character is not an old man but an octopus named Marcellus. As you get to know Marcellus, you see he is bright, intuitive and has a heart of gold that goes deeper than his grumpy exterior. I highly recommend this book and I think it has a little something for everyone.

This is Van Pelt’s first novel and I do hope it won’t be her last.
